April 25, 2006 By: C. Gardner Asian decor will add exotic touches that will enhance your Asian interior decorating plan.Traditional Japanese home decoration is identifiable through use of natural colours that are more earthy and subdued with accents of red, black and gold. The use of natural lighting is key; ornamentation and furnishings are spare, simplistic in design and often multifunctional. Similar colours are used in Chinese interiors; red is a good luck symbol and is used abundantly. Both use alot of natural materials and wood such as bamboo that are stained dark for a sophisticated look. Japanese style furniture tends to use lighter stains for a more natural look that highlights graining and texture. Chinese furnishings are more detailed with ornate carvings and intense color. Both styles depict historical figures or mythical creatures. Bold calligraphy is common to both oriental styles. Important to the Oriental design philosophy, is to bring the outside, inside and water features such as fountains are often incorporated in the interior decoration for soothing sounds and to add moisture to the atmosphere. Chinese decorating style elements can be added to accent a Western living room, however, traditional Japanese interior design style tends to stand on its own, and incorporates an entire theory of interior design that eschews clutter and ornamentation. Therefore, if you prefer a modern Japanese style of decoration, it is best to devote an entire room to Japanese interior design, while Chinese interior decorating touches can be added to an existing more traditional design scheme. You can add an Asian inspired decor to your home easily;it is relatively easy to find attractive designs from Asia at a market in an Oriental neighborhood or by browsing online. A few Asian interior decoration touches, such as a handpainted black lacquer Chinese screen with dragons or a Japanese tea table can bring the magic of the Orient into your home.
