Before room designs are built, use this important tool to organize room design ideas first.

Designing rooms can be challenging. If you are putting a scheme together for your room designs, one useful tool you can use to organize your interior design ideas is a color swatch board. This will help give a sense of order and alleviate frustrations when trying to organize your room decorating.

After you have collected pictures and materials for the rooms in your home decorating ideas box and binder, arrange them on a board so that you can get a sense of what your room design may feel and look like before committing to a scheme and implementing interior decorating ideas you are unsure about.

Purchase a white foam core board from your local art and crafts store, or a white cloth will suffice. A white background will help to show colors more 'true'. Layout pictures of room decor elements: furniture, lighting and accessories. Cut window trim, flooring and paint chips in proportion to how they are going to be used (for example you would show more floor samples on your board than a countertop material). Layout samples that are going to be in close proximity, beside each other. You will be able to see what conflicts there are in colors, textures and make adjustments. The board should also express your interior design style. Glue down everything when you are happy that it appears balanced.

Take the sample board with you when you are ready to purchase room decor as a reference for yourself and salespeople but make sure it has been cut to a convenient size for carrying.

Take the challenges out of decorating rooms; a materials layout board will help you visualize rooms before you build.
